I was never the type of girl who liked to travel in crowds. I like to make an entrance, make a statement. Most importantly, I like to work on my own.
I went out to work on Thursday needing money for my upcoming trip to the Canary Islands. I was planning on shopping the next day and needed my paycheck. I got my mind ready to strategize, to focus, and to land my sales pitch effortlessly.

I met my client right outside her building onWall Street. She was dressed like a million dollars, looking like a bottle of fine wine. I followed her as she stepped into some stores to do some shopping during her lunch hour. We went to try on some shoes. She had six pairs which she liked and I encouraged her to try them on as I sat on the bench next to her waiting for the sales woman to see if they had a pair of sandals in my size.

The longer I sat next to her the more I encouraged her to try a variety of sexy heels. The saleswoman breathlessly walked back and forth to get the right shoes and the right fit, knowing that this woman was here to spend some money. She narrowed it down to three pairs and began walking the length of the store to see which one fit. All eyes were on her as each foot delicately hit the ground with her perfectly manicured foot inside.

My cell phone rang just then and I stepped outside to take the call. I had to turn the corner fast as I couldn’t hear with all the noise outside and found a nice quiet little alley. I opened my jacket and pulled out my latest “purchase”. The well dressed woman’s purse was inside with credit cards, $500 in cash, three gift cards and ID. I ran to the piers and took a water taxi into Brooklyn. My colleague was waiting for, me money in hand, to purchase my new found goods. I removed the $500 dollars in cash and gave him the rest. I had quite the assortment and it fetched me just enough to enjoy my weekend on the Canary Islands.

My feet were hurting and I had been exhausted from working long hours all week. A long weekend was just what I need and I was looking forward to laying on the beach with a drink in hand.

Freedom is truly making your own clothes. Freedom is never having to go to a million stores to find the right outfit. Freedom is never having to wait in line for a fitting room.  Freedom is not being scared to look different. Freedom is feeling confident walking into a room knowing you are wearing something no one else is. Freedom is being strong enough to be your own person.

Freedom is making your own clothes, your own style, and your own rules.

About the dress:
This is one of my favorite dress to wear to work. I combined a high collar with a loose fit top and pencil skirt bottom to make a stylish dress. All I do is add a thin belt and I am ready to go. Its especially nice when I wear my hair up so I can show off the great collar.  The best part is that no one else has this dress.

I am really feeling this whole new denim trend. How fun to get away from regular, boring blue denim and have so much variety! Instead of going for the printed look, which is now in every store, I decided to do something totally different and make my own pair of unique denim.

I really love these pants as they go with everything. I decided to go for a preppy look here and paired my pants with a blazer and white T-shirt underneath. Then I threw on a pair of heels and was ready to step out the door.

These pants are so different because they actually stretch and give that perfect fit. Rather than just go for a a basic acid wash look I added gold trim to the front which completely brought out the bold design. I get so many complement on these pants and everyone asks where I got them! I’m looking forward to experimenting with a bunch of different looks  this season by seeing how it goes with different tops!

What  I love about Brooklyn is that art is everywhere.

It’s on your way to the Bodega. It’s down the stairs you use to throw out your garbage. It’s on the road you take to get on the subway.

It’s on the shirt you wore. It’s there in the way you matched your sneakers to your outfit. It’s there in how you perfectly cut your shirt to add some style. It’s there…..

It’s everywhere you go. It’s always with you and within you.

This is one of my favorite shirts and can be found here

It was beautiful outside this past Saturday. My friend called me to tell me to come out!

I couldn’t decide what to wear at first. I wanted to be comfortable but still look funky. I decided to pair my new stretch-denim shorts with a plain t-shirt,  my clutch bag, earrings, and sunglasses. I knew the perfect pair of shoes to wear…comfortable and funky!

I took the bus to enjoy the fresh air instead of the subway.

As I walked around I saw a stoop sale where they had the most amazing record collection. I saw records from Donna Summer, Diana Ross, Whitney Houston, and even Fresh Prince and Jazzy Jeff! It was so much fun to look through all the old records and reminisce.

Then I decided to go people watching! I walked a few blocks to my favorite outdoor summer spot. Of course, people-watching just isn’t complete without a cold drink. I got a drink and enjoyed the night and watched all the fashionable people walk by. But all that walking made me hungry!

At the end of the day, I decided to take a cab home instead of the bus. I had a great Saturday 🙂
